A nice surprise at the Préfecture

I went to pick up my new carte de séjour today expecting another one year carte. I was amazed to find that I had been given a 10 year one. It expires in 2018 which seems like a very long time away and I truly have no idea where I will be living by then (and I don't even want to think about how old I'll be!). But its nice to know that at least I don't have to go back to the Préfecture any time soon.

It doesn't sound quite so nice in Rosebank.

Oh wow you got the 10 year card? That's the equivalent of the holy grail!

That's cool! Because let's be honest, the Préfecture isn't the best place to go or to be. Even for a French like me :$

Australians are the best export from Australia in economic terms...we are very productive for other countries!

I watched the Chinese Olympic opening and thought how it lacked the goonie energy of the Sydney 2000 opening. And a few days before I was thinking how we've legislated so much of the adventure out of Australia these last fifteen years. Making safe has turned into making dull... My Jackson Gran has so many frontier-type stories, and I think that feeling of needing to push such frontiers remains in the psyches of people from new cultures.

So there are all these Australians out seeking adventure and turning a profit for other countries...I can't blame them. I wonder if I'm out here as there are so fewer restrictions as a result of distance from governing bodies.

Oh my, I'm jealous. I'm hoping to get our 10 year cards in October. I'll hope it works out.
