Our driver's licenses arrived. Not that we have a car. Nor do I have any intention of driving in the near future. But its nice to know its there if its needed...

Congratulations!!!

I totally understand how important it is to switch over your US license and how nice it is to finally have it done and in hand! :)

I really ought to do this...

What was the first step for you? I know it's a little bit different for Americans but in theory we can just exchange ours?

Its easy for us. Go to the licensing section of the Prefecture. You have one year from when you get your carte de sejour to swap over. They'll give you a list. The hardest thing was a driving history from the Dept of Transport in Australia to prove I'd held my license for years not just since the date on my license (which was the renewal date) - not hard just took a while to get. A few translations, a simple form to fill in, a distingo envelope and voila!
